| Welcome
to The Lowicknet Photo Gallery First Online Presentation 4th January 2008 |
| In 1998, I uploaded the first version of The Lowick Village website
onto the Internet as one of my new retirement hobbies. It consisted of three pages
with one image per page and was originally typed out in 'Word', without the use of a web
creation program, as part of an Internet course I attended at our
local college to acquaint myself with computers. Since then, it has been expanded
with the intention of providing information on Lowick Village and the beautiful North
Northumberland countryside, as well as promoting local businesses and
services.
Over the years, I have taken a substantial number of photographs of Lowick Village and the surrounding area with the intention of using them on the website and have also been fortunate enough to be granted permission to use a number of 'bygone' images from private collections, and for this, I am most grateful, as they have proved to be highly popular, especially to those who can still "remember when". Unfortunately, apart from those displayed for a short time on the 'News & Local Events' page, only a small number have actually made it to the pages of the main 'village' site and have instead been relegated to storage disks, "for future use". The modern images were mainly intended as a means of showing off the village and surrounding countryside to prospective visitors or those having an interest in the area, and are in no way to be considered artistic, however, it was recently suggested that I display some of these images on a permanent basis for the benefit of residents and visitors alike, and The Lowicknet Photo Gallery is the result. I must point out, however, that I have very little experience in photography and rely heavily on the clever imaging software of the camera, but I hope you will still enjoy browsing through them. I must apologise in advance to those of you with a 'dial-up' connection. Whilst the images have been sized and compressed with this in mind, they may still take a little time to load so I would ask for your patience. Since the images have been thus prepared, the resolution is unsuitable for anything other than website viewing, but anyone wishing a copy of a modern colour image is welcome to contact me and I will E-mail them an image file. I cannot, however, extend this courtesy to the 'bygone' images, as I do not have the authority and I would ask that visitors to the site respect this also. |
