MAST BASE AND SUPPORTCONSTRUCTION

support7,1.jpg (21143 bytes) The support for the lattice mast is an RSC construction set in concrete, to a depth of 1300mm. The concrete extends out of the ground by 300mm and is 1200mm x 1000mm.Due to the need to keep the mast away from the boundary side of the base, the main support is offset in the concrete. This is not ideal, so to compenste, steel has been added to give the RSC a better tie into the concrete. This extra steel takes the form of two pins 700mm long and angle bracings welded across. This has been covered with a 300mm layer of concrete which is above ground level.
The mast with 50mm dia aluminum pole and ANSA460 antenna with 1/4 wave VHF antenna on top.The pole fitted is 4m long and at present has 1m extending out of lattice structure. The intention is to fit a 6m pole and bring the final overall height to some aprox 12m.The pole is clamped at the top and half way up the inside of the mast, this was acheived by using halves of scaffold clamps fixed to sections of 50mm x 6mm flatbar welded over the legs. 1_4.jpg (16445 bytes)
1_2.jpg (20158 bytes) The finished base and support.Prior to the final concrete being poured,an extra section of RSC was welded on to the first section. This gives a total height of 2.4m above ground. As can be seen the mast is hinged at the bottom, and it is possible to lower and raise the whole structure manually, with a lot of cursing and creaking of bones. So the next plan is to fit a winch.Especially in view of the intention to increase the height.
