'Craigmore' literally means, "The Big Rock"... Some folks here like to refer to the Church as, 'a light founded on the Big Rock'. The imagery of light was mentioned by Jesus when he told his disciples they were to be, "the light of the world", bringing the love of God to the people living in darkness. In a story Jesus once told, he said that the wise person would build their house (life) on the solid foundation of rock (his teachings) - so we want to teach the wisdom of the Bible and make decisions according to it. The Craigmore Methodist Church building is one of a number that once formed a small community of Methodist outreach: the large white house beside the church used to be an orphanage; a school for the orphans and local children is further down the Orken Lane; and the homes of school masters, minister, etc were all in the area. These buildings are all now private dwellings, but the legacy of youth and children's work has continued to this day, including a drama group called, "The Big Rock"!
