An interesting castle history although very little remains of the once mighty structure.
Mere Castle
The structure of Mere Castle has
long ago disappeared, all that remains is the imposing hill

After the Norman Conquest the area
between the River Cary, the source being pond at the foot of the hill at
the end of Fore Street and the river Parrett and River Axe is where Walter
de Douai built the first castle of Cary.
Wardour Castle
Old Wardour Castle was built towards
the end of the 14th century for John Lovel, the 5th
Lord Lovel within the Hundred of Dunworth. It lies within the south west
region of Wiltshishire between Salisbury and Shafttesbury in the parish
