La Citadelle - a farm in the Dordogne, part of the ancient kingdom of Aquitaine in South-West France
The holiday home of Eric and Jane Finlayson

The lake from the farmhouse
This site is devoted to providing information and pictures of this stunningly beautiful part of south-west France - one of the world's top wine-growing regions - where summer lasts from the beginning of May through to the middle of October, with regular news and and new pictures from La Citadelle.
La Citadelle is one of our two homes, where we live for around half of each year. It is set in rolling lawns with panoramic views of the 20 acres of surrounding woodland which we own; these woods are full of all kinds of wildlife - deer, wild boar, birds. The farmhouse at La Citadelle is available to rent for holidays throughout most of the year. It sleeps 8-10 in comfort, with the use of our private lake for swimming, boating and fishing, and of the large swimming pool. The first entry in the index following this page will give you up-to date details of the accommodation, availability, and prices.
We are constantly improving this site, adding more pictures of the region and the activities available - like top-class golf, cycling, and horse-riding, and the region's heritage and culture. We also include specialist articles on the specialties of the region, and we share our experience of some of the things that we have learnt, like the mechanics of buying property in France.
There are few good pictures of this part of France elsewhere on the web. Other sites are mostly only about trying to sell you something; doing that only occupies around 1% of our site. We try to fill in all the gaps in the guidebooks and, above all, show you our lovely region.
