Bridgewater Lock . The lock was built in order to give access from the Bridgewater canal to the Mersey. Traffic on the Bridgewater could lock through to the ship canal through a flight of ten double locks which were closed and filled in during 1966, and then out into the river. The Mersey lock is still in existance but long disused. The river lock is built using the natural red sandstone for the foundations with the lock walls made of concrete. |
