Northwich Road Swing Bridge. The swing bridge is located at Stockton Heath, just to the south of Warringron and carries the main A49 road across the canal. It's design and method of construction follows the same pattern as used for all the other swing bridges along the canal and it rests on an annular girder of 31 feet in diameter. Sunk into the concrete base of the pivot is the lower roller containing between 60 and 64 cast iron rollers, a toothed rack is bolted to the annular girder and the whole structure can be set in motion by hydraulic pinions. |
