Randles Sluices.

The sluices here link the canal with the Mersey and are used for discharging excess water into the river. They are situated approximately two  miles upstream from  the Old Quay swing bridge.

The sluices  are constructed in a similar manner to all  those along the canal and the  thirty foot steel doors  have a possible rise of twenty feet. The doors are constructed so as to lift vertically against rollers and are attached to hollow steel counterbalances which are themselves filled with concrete.
