Saltport.

These temporary docks, close to the junction with  the river Weaver, were opened on 22nd July 1892.

Saltport developed over a very short period of time and the docks here were  extremely busy  for a number of years but they were soon  superseeded by the docks at Runcorn and Weston Point   as the canal was extended.

The main imports handled by Saltport were grain and timber, whilst the export trade consisted of salt from  Cheshire.

No trace of the port now remains.
