Trafford Road swing bridge.

The bridge is situated near the Old Trafford football ground and separates the main docks from the Pomona docks. It  is the largest and widest of the swing bridges, and weighing in  at 1800 tons it is also the heaviest swing bridge in the UK. The bridge also carries the heaviest traffic density of all the swing bridges and  for many years was  considered to be grossly inadequate for the amount of road traffic it had to carry.

Some years after the docks were closed the bridge was totally refurbished and permanently fixed in position,  and a new fixed bridge was built alongside in order to releive the bad road conditions in the area.

The construction is similar to all the others on the canal and the hydraulic tower can still be seen on the Salford side of the canal.
