Walton Lock.

On passing the Chester Road swing bridge (going upstream), a short arm (on the left hand side) of the canal  leads to some timber and sand wharves, and just beyond this is another arm of the canal which leads to Walton Lock.  The lock  was provided to give  access into the Mersey.

The short branch of the canal leading into the timber wharf was once the course of the river.
