Weaver Navigation.

 

Constructed in the 1730's when the winding River Weaver was widened, deepened and straightened in order to carry the increasing salt trade that was then springing up around Northwich.

Access to the Manchester ship canal is through weston_marsh_lock.htm   .

Vessels of up to 1.000 tons can follow the Navigation as far as Northwich, passing through several swing bridges and a set of twin locks at Dutton.

Radio traffic can be heard on VHF channel 74,  156.725 MHz.
