Weaver Sluices.

The sluices here are constructed in a similar manner to all those along the canal, including those at each set of locks. At the Weaver sluices, the thirty foot steel doors are constructed so as to have a possible rise of thirteen feet. The doors lift vertically against rollers and are attached to hollow steel counterbalances which are themselves filled with concrete.

There are ten sluices sluices here, situated side by side and they are used to let out excess water brought by the river Weaver into the Mersey. The sluices are capable of discharging 1,000 tonnes of water per second into the Mersey.
