After the
rebuilding of Ypres Cathedral following its destruction
in the First World War, a new organ was built in the
North Transept by Annessens in 1930. The organ front was
designed by the architect J. Coomans. It is a bold
three-tower design with curved flats to the end towers,
an unusual feature in England. I can only think of Reading
Town Hall case (Willis 1882) which has this
characteristic, but members will doubtless remind me of
others. The overall effect of the case is enhanced by the
pipe stencilling, which echoes the pattern of the pipe
mouths.
