Two
Kent Organs
by Malcolm Hall
During
last year, two well know Kent churches received major
attention to their instruments. The first was at St. Mary
Bredin in Canterburyand was originally built as a post
war F.H. Browne & Sons show piece for the
new church. This instrument received restoration to the
Roosevelt soundboards and a new transmission
system offering full MIDI support. It was
also tonally updated with an independent great Fifteenth,
a III rank Mixture and a Tromba/ Trombone unit.
At Chilham
Parish Church the organs divided case for Swell and
Great were moved from their position in the South
Transept and positioned together in the opposite North
Transept to form a single entity. Tonal additions, with
completion of the prepared for only stops,
has given this instrument greater flexibility for both
service and recital use. It is hoped that this organ will
be demonstrated for us during our KCOA meeting at Chilham
in May this year.
