Presidents Dinner
Informative,
enlightening, encouraging, entertaining, witty, whimsical,
charming and totally captivating. These are just a few
adjectives, which could describe Mr. William McVicker, guest
speaker at our Presidents Dinner on 13th September last
year. As Organist of St. Barnabas Church Dulwich, Curator of the
Royal Festival Hall organ and his work with aspiring young
organists, he was well placed to keep us totally enthralled as he
gave us a tantalizing insight into his world as a freelance
musician. His work at the Royal Festival Hall was of great
interest with mention, not only of the organ, but the work being
carried out on the hall acoustics.
The Dinner was
held at Eastling Village Hall, near Faversham, which was a new
venue for our forty members who attended, having good facilities
and ample parking. Although there were some logistical hiccups
with empty glasses and, embarrassingly for some, glassless toasts
etc., the dinner itself was enjoyable. These arrangements will be
given greater attention before our next dinner.
Michael Cooke,
our new President, gave us a résumé of his early years and
there were a good selection of CDs and records for sale.
