The Royal Manor Workshops were established in 1979 to provide a focal point for local Arts, Crafts and Music in the Island and Royal Manor of Portland. Our objectives are to promote member’s work and increase awareness of art, crafts and music throughout the area. We provide facilities for members and also run exhibitions, events, workshops and lectures open to all.
We have monthly member’s evenings with guest speakers and demonstrators on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30pm
Interested in Rag Rugs? - Join our Rag Rug Club on 2nd Saturday afternoon each month from 2 - 4. This has proved very popular and some stunning work has been done.
New for 2003 we have a beading group meeting on the 3rd Saturday each month from 2 - 4
W e have a stained glass group, meeting on 4th Saturday each month from 10 - 4.
The Art Group meets to paint, usually on a theme or a particular technique, every Wednesday Evening at 7:30.
Craft Group meets on an informal basis on 2nd & 4th Friday afternoons at 2:30 to progress your own work and have a chat with like minded craft workers, or come along to our Thursday evening group, meeting every week at 7:30, to try different crafts, usually led by a member of the group
Art, Rag Rug, Stained Glass, Beading and craft group meetings are free to members.
Past workshops have included calligraphy and drawing, rag rugs, beadwork, stone letter cutting, silk painting, embroidery. Richard Box for Painting and drawing, Fabric Collage and embroidery; Goldwork with Sylvia Drinkwater and Raffia hat making with Claire Richards, Stumpwork with Margaret Gamble and also stumpwork and beadwork with Annette Bolton. Peter Rush also did a weekend workshop on paper and wire sculpture. Most recent was glass etching and glass mosaic with Rob Peain Musical events have included The Eberle Quartet, The Mellstock Band and Isla St. Clair.
We also have trips to museums, galleries etc; We visit exhibitions at the Royal Academy, Victoria and Albert and British Museum etc.
