Our Church Drama Group is known as St. John's Players. The group began in the 1980's and has produced many good quality, successful productions that suit all age groups.
St. John's Players broke up in 1994 and after a few years break, we reformed in the summer of 1998. After a few months of rehearsals, we held a very successful Review Night in December. We played to a full house and people were entertained by a wide variety of acts, many people from church taking part, as well as people from outside the church. We had dancers from the Janes Robson School of Dancing at Consett as well as disco dancing. The local Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from Castleside, near Consett entertained us with songs and sketches. Musical talents ranged from piano solos and duets, to trumpet and guitar items and even an 'ocarina' solo from one of our local senior citizens. The younger children acted in a short Christmas play along with some of the adults and the older girls took part in a short sketch and sang as well. Members of our Church Choir See Church Choir page, sang several duets from well known shows. The comedy side was also present with a short sketch and song. I must mention one thing, we have the trendiest of people at St John's the best comedy came from our Churchwardens and two other church personalities who were dressed up as ladies, singing the song 'Sisters' in perfect harmony!! Some of our younger drama members are involved with our Sunday School. As well as taking part in our Review Night they were very keen to act in a Christmas playlet at church and performed to a full congregation.

At present our members range from adults down to children as young as six years old.
We meet on Monday nights from 7.00 pm to approximately 8.30 pm in our Church Hall at Derby Drive, Moorside, Nr. Consett. We are a very friendly club and our rehearsal nights are very informal. We are always looking for new members especially adults. Anyone interested in joining our group would be made extremely welcome, even if it is only to help with costumes and make-up or to help 'behind the scenes.'
Our production of "Dorothy's Magic Shoes" staged on 25th, 26th, and 27th April 2002, was very well received and thoroughly enjoyed by all who came.
We have just finished our pantomime for this year (2003) which was voted a winner by all
who saw it. 'Babes in the Wood' as you've never seen it before!
