The list of the locomotive numbers built by Beyer, Peacock was compiled from the records which
Richard Hills was able to save when Beyer, Peacock closed its Gorton Foundry and which
became one of the major collections when he was able to open the North Western Museum of
Science and Industry in Manchester in 1969. This list was printed originally in the
Transactions of the Newcomen Society, Vol 40, 1967-68, but as such it was available only to
members. Because the original list is virtually unobtainable, it has been decided to reprint
it and much time has been spent in making a thorough revision. The book also includes an
introduction based on the text of Manchester museum's out of print Beyer, Peacock booklet.36 pages plus section with 37 photos, ISBN 1 901613 00 3, 1997.
