CHILE

In the middle of the 19th century wealthy industrialists and landowners who wanted their vineyards to produce wines on the European model introduced grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay amongst others, into Chile. It is important to note that even today these wines are still un-grafted and grow on their own rootstocks. The shelter of the Andes and the coastal Pacific Cordillera mountain range creates a gentle Mediterranean influence, which allows for consistent quality of the vintage year on year. Their wines have become renown for their purity of flavour, tremendous fruit and concentrated richness. Chile has undoubtedly established itself as a benchmark on the international wine scene for its pioneering emphasis on producing consumer friendly, quality wines that are appreciated the world over.

Cono Sur Colchagua Valley Organic

Motivated by the development of eco-friendly practices, for some years now Cono Sur has promoted the organic wine production in Chile, mainly because of the tremendous benefits organic culture brings for everyone: the environment, the consumer and the workers. Some of these benefits are preventing soil erosion (the erosion of soil treated with chemical fertilizers occurs seven times faster than that of soil with capacity for natural reconstruction), maintaining water quality (the excessive use of pesticides can pollute subterranean water deposits, which can eventually reach population through the drinking water) and preserving energy (because almost everything is done manually).

DON MELCHOR 2007: NEW VINTAGE RELEASE

The highly anticipated Don Melchor 2007 will be released to the UK market at the end of September 2010.

2007 has been hailed as an ‘historic’ vintage, widely believed to be the best for Chilean reds in over a decade. Wines from this year show a characteristic combination of intensity, lovely acidity, purity of fruit and ripe, fine-grained tannins. Powerful yet elegant, these wines are the most balanced in recent Chilean history and should age beautifully.

Older vintages available on request. Please contact for prices and availability.

Terrunyo

92 points from Wine Spectator.A huge expression of cabernet Sauvignon, terrunyo pushes deep blackberry and violets on the nose, while the palate bursts with acidity that propels lasting dark flavours. On the spot!
