GREAT VALUE RED WINE OF THE YEAR
INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE 2003
_copy.jpg)
Wakefield Wines, the family owned and
operated winery from South Australia’s Clare Valley, has
collected a Great Value Red Wine of the Year Award and a
gold medal at this year’s International Wine Challenge (IWC).
The criteria for the award include quality, availability and
value for money and the judges decided that Wakefield Shiraz
ticked all the right boxes. Mitchell Taylor, Managing
Director of Wakefield collected the trophy at the
awards ceremony at the Hilton London Metropole and said, “We
are delighted with how well all our wines have performed
this year, both at home and abroad, but winning Great Value
Red Wine of the Year at such a prestigious competition is
just the icing on the cake for us. I am thrilled and can’t
wait to celebrate back home with the rest of my team who
have each made such a valuable contribution to the success
of Wakefield”.
The wine, made by Adam Eggins, has aromas
of plum, cinnamon, liquorice and spice with creamy nuances
of vanilla oak, chocolate and coffee. On the palate it is a
long, round and full flavoured wine with strong, persistent
flavours of dark cherries, liquorice and plum. All grapes
are picked from Wakefield’s Clare Valley vineyard and the
wine is made and bottled on the estate.
