The Counterfeit Clash

Do you hark back to the New Wave era of drainpipe trousers and Doc Martin boots? Do you have a long lived passion for the sounds of the late 70's and early 80's?  Lennoxtown band the Counterfeit Clash tour venues across the country creating just this New Wave vibe and tapping into a rich vein of long forgotten passion for it's music.

The band was formed around Christmas 1996 by brothers George and John Coventry with fellow musicians Robert McCahill and John Leslie and grew out of their longtime passion for The Clash and other alternative groups.

According to the groups manager, Michael McGlade, The Counterfeit Clash, who practice in a local hotel, have gained a significant local following.  He told the Herald, "The band got together with the intention of performing only once at a fundraising gig for Radio Clyde's "Cash for Kids at Christmas" appeal, and although the concert was great success the band quickly disbanded.

The year after, in 1997, the band were asked to re-form for another "Cash for Kids" gig.  Because they received such great response from the crowd again, they decided to take the show on the road permanently.  they have gone from strength to strength.

The Counterfeit Clash will be performing at Kirkintilloch's Broadcroft Hotel at 8pm on Sunday September 26.  Be sure to dig out those DM boots and let yourself be caught up in the new wave time warp.
