Last Concert

The fourth of the choir's five concerts in the 2002/3 season took place on Saturday 5th April at Royston Parish Church.

The concert began with Sir John Stainer's Crucifixion, a Victorian 'copy' of Bach's St Matthew Passion in its use of narrator, Jesus, crowd scenes and full choral technicolour.

The second half opened with sections from Palestrina's early masterpiece the Missa Papae Marcelli written in the mid 16th century to honour the friend and protector who reigned only 21 days as Pope. Maurice Duruflé's Four Motets followed.

The final work in the programme was Malcolm Williamson's Procession of Palms. Malcolm became a good friend of the RSC in his last two years and we are pleased to perform this beautiful piece in his memory.
