The Royston Choral Society really have something to sing about when they perform in Royston Parish Church at the end of the month. At their next concert, on Saturday 27 April, the choir will be celebrating success in applying for support through the Lottery's 'Awards for All' scheme.
A £4,043.00 grant means the Choral Society can now launch a programme of publicity and events in and around Royston to increase local interest in the choir and concerts. Choir member Chris Lee, who submitted the grant application, is delighted with the news: "Thanks to Awards for All, many people in Royston and surrounding villages will be able to learn more about the choir, and we hope some will also want to join us. We always welcome new singers of all ages."
The Broxbourne Sinfonia will join the choir for the April 27 concert, which begins at 7.30pm, in a performance of two serene Requiem settings by Maurice Duruflé and Gabriel Fauré.
Tickets for the concert - £7.50 (unwaged £5) - are on sale in advance from Royston Library, or on the night at the Parish Church. For further information about the concert or choir call Chris Lee (on 01763 245413) or Caroline Franks (on 01920 822723)
