For several years the only brewery in Shakespeare branch area not to be based in a pub, it opened in Spring 1999 under the proprietorship of David Tilbrook. Despite the Gloucestershire postal address, the brewery is located on a small industrial park just inside the Warwickshire border near Shipston-on-Stour. Brew length was expanded from 2.5 barrels to 10 barrels in March 2000. In 2005 Dave sold the brewery to Jon Pilling, who had previously brewed at Cox's Yard in Stratford before its closure in January 2002. The brewery specialises in bottle-conditioned beers.

About 70 outlets, mostly in Gloucestershire include the Fox & Hounds at Gt Wolford, the Queens Head at Sedgeberrow, and the Plough at Stretton-on-Fosse within the Shakespeare branch area.
