| Pub of the Year | ||
At their February meeting, members of the Shakespeare branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, (CAMRA), chose the Holly Bush, Henley Street, Alcester, as their Pub of the Year. Three times a previous winner in 2000, 2001 and 2002 the Holly Bush has been an ever present for many years in CAMRA's best selling Good Beer Guide. There are many things that have made the Bush a winner: Home Page | Pub Index | News | Breweries | Diary | Festivals | What's on
One in the Bush ....The award will be presented by Shakespeare branch Chairman, Lloyd Evans, at a ceremony in the pub on Friday 27th April, at which we hope to be joined by many men in strange attire: the officers of the Court Leet of the Manor of Alcester (Ale Tasters included), and the White Hart Morris Men. Members of both these august institutions have not infrequently been observed in the Holly Bush, drawn like moths to a flame by its manifold attractions.
- It has not been knocked into one huge cavernous vault, but has retained its traditional layout of many small, intimate rooms, where you can meet and relax
- The extensive garden and the function room for something a bit different
- The consistently high quality of the eight real ales normally available
- The constantly changing choice, bringing in beers from all over Britain.
- The two beer festivals every year in June and October bringing even more variety
- The excellence of the catering, using much locally-grown produce
- The welcoming atmosphere for musicians and singers to have planned or informal "sessions"
- The relaxed atmosphere, which makes it a pub that belongs to the locals, but also one which welcomes strangers
- The friendliness and efficiency of the skilled and knowledgeable staff
- But most of all the vision and dedication of mine host "Teej" Deffley, who has put this all together, and makes sure that the Bush always lives up to the standards she has set for it.
