Alcester - January guests at the Holly Bush, Henley Street, included Morgans Chedham's Ale (3.4%), Salopian Hoptwister (4.5%), Blue Bear Roar Spirit (4.2%), Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%) and Great Scot (4.1%), Hardy & Hanson Olde Trip (4.3%), Enville Acropolis (4.3%), Morgans Olde Codger (4.4%), Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale (4.0%) and Cottage This Time Next Year (4.2%). February saw appearances by Sadlers Green Man (4.0%) and Rugby Webb Ellis (4.2%), with Wye Valley Auld Sara The Hare (4.2%), Brains SA (4.2%), Salopian Cock n Bull (5.1%), Ossett Silver Fox (4.1%), Wye Valley Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale (4.2%), Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted (3.8%) Hidden Froth & Nonsense (4.2%) and Greene King LBW in March. The regular beers are Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%), Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%), and Uley Uley Bitter (4.0%). During rebuilding work, locals wishing to "spend a penny" have had to cross the road to the Town Hall, but the new toilet block is scheduled to open on Good Friday (6th April). (31 Mar 07)

Red Hill - Pat & Steve Wainwright of the Golden Cross at Ardens Grafton have additionally taken over the nearby Stag at Redhill. The restaurant can seat 150, while weekday lunctimes feature a carvery. Not waiting for 1 July, the pub is already entirely non-smoking. The pub is still tied to Greene King, but Steve is hoping to arrange a guest beer. (29 Mar 07)

Whichford - "outside" beers seem to be gaining ground at the Norman Knight. At Christmas three beers from Mike Garner's next-door Wizard Brewery were available: Apprentice (3.6%), One for the Toad (4.0%) and Bah Humbug (5.8%), with only Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) as a guest. By the end of March it had been joined as a guest by Fullers London Pride (4.1%), with One for the Toad (4.0%) the only remaining Wizard beer. (29 Mar 07)

Shipston-on-Stour - Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) Adnams Bitter (3.7%) and Batemans Hooker (4.6%) were reported at the Falcon, Church Street, in March. (27 Mar 07)

Stretton-on-Fosse - Christmas guest beers at the Plough were Hook Norton Twelve Days (5.4%) and Archers Away Days (4.2%), together with Purity Pure Gold and Flowers IPA (3.6%). February saw Archers That'll Do (3.8%), Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Oxfordshire IPA (4.1%), with JW Lees Bitter (4.0%), Thwaites Thoroughbred (4.0%) and Greene King Pride of Cheltenham (3.9%) in March. Shipston-on Stour - Adnams Old (4.1%) was a January guest at the White Bear, High Street, with Newmans Wolvers Ale (4.1%) from Somerset in February, Cains IPA (3.8%) and Coach House Dick Turpin (4.2%) in March. Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%), Adnams Bitter (3.7%) and Draught Bass (4.4%) are the regulars. (25 Mar 07)

Evesham - the town's first non-smoking venue was Karma (formerly Mojo) on the Market Place, which reopened on 23 March after an extensive refit. Open from 5 to midnight (2am Fridays and Saturdays, it is now "a sophisticated café bar and late night music venue". Unfortunately it is also a non-real ale venue. (23 Mar 07)

North Littleton - Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) is the real ale at the Ivy. (21 Mar 07)

Ardens Grafton - Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) and Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%) were the Christmas regulars at the Golden Cross, before Christmas, with a seasonal touch being added by Hook Norton Twelve Days (5.4%). But Youngs Special (4.5%) and Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%) are well established as the regulars now, together with a Purity beer. And now the pub has been awarded Cask Marque accreditation for the quality of the cellarmanship, with the presentation evening on 17th March. (21 Mar 07)

Newbold-on-Stour - Castle Rock Harvest Pale (3.9%) was an unusual guest at the Bird in Hand in mid November, with Gem (4.1%) and Wild Hare (5.0%), both from Bath Brewery, in March. (18 Mar 07)

Alcester - November guest beers at the Three Tuns, High Street included Skinners Betty Stoggs (4.0%), Hoggley's Winter Tail (4.0%) and Downton Golden (5.0%). At this year's St Nicholas Day celebrations, the firkin of Boy Bishop, donated by Hobson's Brewery, lasted a mere 2 hours and five minutes after going on sale, easily smashing last year's record of 2hr 20min. Goffs Jouster (4.0%) has been dropped, with Hobsons Best Bitter (3.8%) continuing as the only regular ale. Sharps Special Ale (5.2%) and RCH Pitchfork (4.3%) were available in January with Pardoes 1835 (4.3%) in late February, and Sharps Bruised Ego (3.8%). (18 Mar 07)

Offenham - Humpty Dumpty Santa's Surprise (5.0%) and Blue Bear Roar Spirit (4.2%) were New Year guests at the Bridge Inn together with the regular Donnington BB (3.6%) and Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%), with Wye Valley Butty Bach following in January. Early March saw Saddlers Thin Ice (4.5%) and Wolf Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (3.7%). Sam Wadsworth left just before Christmas and the pub is apparently still under temporary management, but we have heard that Enterprise Inns may become the new owners. (18 Mar 07)

Alcester - the Cross Keys, Stratford Road, had been closed for seven months, but reopened in March, with former landlady Kerrie back behind the bar. A handpump has been installed and a real ale is awaited. The pub opens early to serve breakfasts as well as good, home-cooked fare during the day. Friday and Saturday should see various entertainments from Karaoke to folk groups. (15 Mar 07)

Abbots Salford - 17-year old Denise Maleary has become one of the youngest people in the country to hold a personal pub licence, gaining her BIIAB qualification at Henley in Arden College. Her Father, Terry, runs the Vineyard and is very pleased at his daughter's achievement. (15 Mar 07)

Wellesbourne - Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%) appears to be the only real ale now available at the Kings Head, having ousted the previous Draught Bass (4.4%) and M&B Brew XI (3.8%). (14 Mar 07)

Evesham - two real ales from available at the Orchard, Twyford Roundabout: Banks's Bitter (3.8%) and Marston's Pedigree (4.5%). The management of this Brewer's fayre outlet are reported to be keen to improve sales of traditional beers. (11 Mar 07)

Bretforton - Christmas guest beers at the Fleece included Wood's Xmas Cracker (6.0%), St George's Ho, Ho, Ho (4.5%), Wizard Bar Humbug (5.8%). January saw the last new beer from Bard's Brewery in Bidford, a 5% special called You're Bard as well as Orkney Dark Island (4.6%) and Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale (4.0%). February visitors included Slaters Reserve (6.0%) and Premium (4.4%) and Crouch Vale Brewers Gold (4.0%), with Millstone Vale Mill (3.9%), Church End Gravediggers Mild (3.8%), Cannon Royall Fruiterer's Mild (3.7%), Burton Bridge Damson Porter (4.5%), Woods Parish Bitter (4.0%), Ossett Snow Drop (4.2%) and Enville Ale (4.5%) following in March. Evesham - the BBC Club in High Street will admit card-carrying CAMRA members. It usually has three real ales on handpump, with Theakston XB (4.5%) as the regular: January guests included Hancocks HB (3.6%) and Fullers London Pride (4.1%), with Courage Directors (4.8%) and Shepherd Neame Early Bird Spring Hop Ale (4.3%) in March. There are plans to run a beer festival over the Easter weekend. (11 Mar 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) and Bath Barnstormer (4.5%) were among the March offerings at the Golden Bee, Sheep Street. The pub was advertising the coldest beer in town, guaranteed at 1° to 3°, but presumably not for the real ales! (08 Mar 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - a fourth real ale has been reported at the Queens Head, Ely Street. Adnams Broadside (4.7%) has now joined the regular Adnams Bitter (3.7%), Draught Bass (4.4%), Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%) and Thatchers Cider. (07 Mar 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - March beers at the Rose & Crown, Sheep Street were Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%), Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%), Marston's Pedigree (4.5%), Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Abbot Ale. They seem to be part of a revolving shortlist of beers, all having previously been on sale there in October or November. Licensee Gary Ferguson has been awarded Cask Marque accreditation for the quality of the cellarmanship here. (07 Mar 07)

Norton - Banks's Bitter (3.8%) and Marston's Pedigree (4.5%) appear to be the regular offerings at the Norton Grange, which was also offering two main courses for the price of one. (07 Mar 07)

Evesham - a local member has reported seeing (but not trying) Brakspear Bitter (3.4%) at the Angel Vaults in Port Street. It had made a previous guest appearance here in late August. (07 Mar 07)

Shipston-on Stour - North Cotswold Winter Solstice (4.5%) and and Morgans Devils Porter (4.9%) were guests at the Horseshoe, Church Street in January, while in February Purity Brewing supplied both Pure Gold (3.8%) and Pure Ubu (4.5%). March saw Wye Valley Auld Sara The Hare (4.2%) and North Cotswold Cockles of your Heart (4.7%). The regular ale is Ruddles Best Bitter (3.7%) from Greene King. (06 Mar 07)

Shipston-on-Stour - a mere three Hook Norton beers at the Coach & Horses, New Street, in March: Hooky Bitter (3.6%), Hooky Gold (4.1%), and Old Hooky (4.6%). (06 Mar 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Everards Tiger (4.2%) are the regulars at the Salmon Tail on Evesham Road. It does not open at lunchtime on Wednesdays. (05 Mar 07)

Broadway - North Cotswold Pig Brook Bitter (3.8%) was such a success at the Horse & Hound, that the pub ordered the same brewery's hung, Drawn N Portered (5.0%) for the Cheltenham race week. Greene King IPA (3.6%), Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%) and Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%) are the the regular beers. (05 Mar 07)

Alcester - the range at the Roebuck, Birmingham Road, has remained consistent for over four years - Websters Yorkshire Bitter (3.5%), and Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%) continue to find favour with its customers. (04 Mar 07)

Broom - Greene King IPA (3.6%), Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) continue as the regular trio at Broom Tavern (03 Mar 07)

Wixford - the Fish Inn. boasted Adnams Bitter (3.7%), Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%), Courage Best Bitter (4.0%) and, rather more unusually, Jenning's Cumberland Ale (4.0%). (03 Mar 07)

Badsey - recent guests at the Round of Gras were Adnams Broadside (4.7%), Woods Shropshire Lad (4.5%) and Westons Hereford County Perry (4.5%). (02 Mar 07)

Hampton Lucy - the Boars Head has changed wholesaler and the number of guest beers means that beer sales are better than ever. Guests in November and December have included Orkney Skull Splitter (8.5%), Nethergate Umbel Ale (3.8%), St. Austell Black Prince (4.0%), Goffs Camelot (4.4%), Oakham White Dwarf (4.3%), Atlas 3 Sisters Scottish Ale (4.2%), Lancaster Blonde (4.1%), Lancaster Red Rose Reinbeer (4.5%), Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%), Hopback Red Ember (4.9%), Derby Gift Wrapped (3.9%), Batemans Rosey Nosey (4.9%), and Hop Back Elf and 'Oppiness (3.9%). Flowers IPA (3.6%) is the regular beer. February saw even more guests such as Wychwood Dirty Tackle (4.4%), Burton Bridge Stairway to Heaven (5.0%), Hopback Crop Circle (4.2%), York Guzzler (3.6%), and Hopback Back Row (4.6%). (27 Feb 07)

Harvington - the Golden Cross has been reported to have Wyre Piddle Piddle in the Wind (4.5%) on handpump. (25 Feb 07)

Shipston-on Stour - having been closed for refurbishment since September the George Hotel on the Market Place finally reopened in February, under the proprietorship of Sue Grey. Its 16 rooms all have flat-screen TV, CD/DVD player and I-pod dock. The dining room opens 12-2.30 and 6.30-9.30, but bar food is available all day, starting with breakfast from 7 am through to light suppers until 9.30 pm. The three real ales available are Fullers London Pride (4.1%), Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) and George Bitter, which is apparently Tetley Bitter re-badged as a house beer. (23 Feb 07)

Evesham - a new convert to real ale is Flacons Bar at the Northwick Hotel on Waterside. September saw the arrival of Fullers London Pride (4.1%), which has proved so popular that is has been kept ever since. (22 Feb 07)

Lower Brailes - Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Wizard Brewery Apprentice (3.6%) are available at the Brailes Golf Club , on Sutton Lane. The restaurant and bars pride themselves on serving locally produced food and drink. (20 Feb 07)

Cherington - the Cherington Arms is the new venue for blues fans since the Brailes sessions ended. The first shows have proved extremely popularas have the Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%), Hooky Gold (4.1%) and Old Hooky (4.6%) with a guest appearance from St Austell Tribute (4.2%) available. Sunday lunchtime music and barbeques are also planned for the summer months. (19 Feb 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - the Old Tramway, Shipston Road, had a hectic weekend in February, selling out of Marston's Pedigree (4.5%), Davenport's Original Bitter (4.0%), and Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%). Everards Tiger (4.2%) was the only ale still functioning on handpump. (19 Feb 07)

Evesham - Christmas specials at the Old Swanne Inne, High Street, included Exmoor Exmas Ale (5.0%) and Burton Bridge Santifreeze (4.5%). January saw Caledonian 80/- (4.2%), Woods Quaff (3.7%) and Salopian Seven Bore (4.1%), with Hydes Jumpin' Jack (4.7%), RCH Pitchfork (4.35), Everards The Umpire Strikes Back (4.0%), Wickwar Station Porter (6.1%), and Nethergate Old Growler (5.0%) all appearing in February. The month also saw a short closure for installation of a new cellar cooling system and the refurbishing of the rear patio area in preparation for the smoking ban. with a glazed covered area and heaters. Oxhill - the Peacock was closed for refurbishment in February, but enquiries with the builders revealed that it would probably reopen in early March. (17 Feb 07)

Tysoe - the Peacock offered no fewer than four real ales in February. The regular Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Fullers London Pride (4.1%). were augmented by Draught Bass (4.4%) and Wadworth 6X (4.3%). (17 Feb 07)

Whatcote - St Austell Tribute (4.2%) was a guest at the Royal Oak in February, with Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Old Hooky (4.6%) the regular fare. (17 Feb 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - the Falcon on Chapel Street is almost unique among Stratford hotels in offering real ale to residents and visitors: Draught Bass (4.4%) and Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) were available in mid-February. In sad contrast no real ale was available at the Alveston Manor, Banbury Road, Holiday Inn, Bridgefoot, Shakespeare Hotel, High Street, or Swans Nest Hotel, Bridgetown. (16 Feb 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - the results of Greene King's latest acquisition could be seen at the Garrick, High Street, where Flowers Original (4.4%), Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%) and Greene King IPA (3.6%) were joined by Hardy Hanson's Olde Trip Ale (4.3%). Presumably it was brewed at Bury St Edmunds, as Greene King closed the Nottingham brewery in early December. (16 Feb 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - Ruddles County (4.3%), Flowers Original (4.4%) and Greene King IPA (3.6%) seem to be regulars at the Windmill, Church Street, as the range has not changed in the last year or so. (16 Feb 07)

Sedgeberrow - the Queens Head has been acquired by the Hook Norton brewery. From late November it was run by a temporary manager, but Claire Checkley and Neil Warren took over on 15th January. They were previously at the Gate Hangs High in Hook Norton. Old Hooky (4.6%) and Hooky Bitter (3.6%) are available, while Bulmer's cider has replaced the Thatcher's. (16 Feb 07)

Ratley - Youngs Winter Warmer (5.0%) and St Austell Tribute (4.2%) were the guests at the Rose and Crown in mid-February. Regular beers are Greene King Abbot Ale (5.0%), Charles Wells Eagle IPA (3.6%) and Bombardier (4.3%). (15 Feb 07)

Edgehill - prompt closing at the Castle. Thursday of half term week saw the doors already locked at 2.25 to the dismay of a thirsty party of walkers. (15 Feb 07)

Wixford - Adnams Explorer (4.3%) was an unusual visitor at the Three Horseshoes in mid February. (15 Feb 07)

Offenham - Wye Valley Butty Bach (4.5%), Ansells Mild (4.0%) and Davenport's Original Bitter (4.0%) vere the Valentine sweethearts at the Fish and Anchor. (14 Feb 07)

Broadway - February guests at the Crown & Trumpet included Stanway Morris-a-Leaping (3.9%), Taylor Landlord (4.3%), Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%), and Battledown Tipster (4.2%). (11 Feb 07)

Ilmington - the Red Lion is one of only three Hook Norton pubs (and only 100 pubs in the whole of England) to win a Gold Award from the Beautiful Beer scheme, which assesses pubs on all aspects of service from the cellar to the table. Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Old Hooky (4.6%) are regularly available, as well as seasonal beers from the brewery. (11 Feb 07)

Ilmington - an unusual visitor to the Howard Arms, was Titanic Full Steam Ahead (4.4%), along with the regular Everards Tiger (4.2%). The Hook Norton offering was Hooky Gold (4.1%). (11 Feb 07)

Lower Brailes - the George Hotel featured three Hook Norton Ales in February - Hooky Dark (3.2%), Hooky Bitter (3.6%), and Hooky Gold (4.1%). (11 Feb 07)

Stratford-upon-Avon - the Yard of Ale, Justins Avenue, which had previously served no traditional draught beers, has now restored the real thing. Reports have reached us of Brains Reverend James (4.5%) on handpump. (11 Feb 07)

Great Wolford - a February guest at the Fox & Hounds was Cottage Southern Bitter (3.7%). Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) are the regular ales. (09 Feb 07)

Long Compton - only two real ales during the winter months at the Red Lion: Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Adnams Broadside (4.7%), but the warmer weather should see an increase in the range offered. From February 7th there will be live acoustic music on the first Wednesday of each month. (09 Feb 07)

Kineton - Wednesday lunchtime found the Swan closed in early February. (07 Feb 07)

Kineton - the Carpenters Arms offered three real ales on a recent visit: Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%), and Adnams Bitter (3.7%) seem to be regulars, while the guest was Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%). (07 Feb 07)

Tredington - Christmas Eve saw two Hook Norton ales at the White Lion: Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Old Hooky (4.6%), together with Adnams Explorer (4.3%), while February saw Hooky Bitter joined by Adnams Bitter (3.7%). Tim and Louise are the new hosts. (07 Feb 07)

Wilmcote - Hook Norton 303AD (4.0%) was the only draught ale available at the Masons Arms on two visits in December, but it was joined by Hobsons Best Bitter (3.8%) in February. (04 Feb07)

Alcester - the range at the Lord Nelson, Birmingham Road in early February were Greene King IPA (3.6%), Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) and Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%), plus Thatchers Cheddar Valley cider. (03 Feb 07)

Binton - The beer range at the Blue Boar will have to change after the closure of Bard's Brewery. Perhaps the last pint of Bard's on sale anywhere was The Scottish Ale (4.6%), still on sale on January 28th. The other regular beers remain Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%), Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%), and Theakston Best Bitter (3.6%). (29 Jan 07)

Welford - new landlady at the Four Alls is Anouchka Richardson. The pub has a riverside terrace and eating area, as well as a large garden with play area to the rear, and a private island with fishing rights. It also has a new website at www.thefouralls.co.uk. Wadworth 6X (4.3%) and Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) are the draught beers on offer. (27 Jan 07)

Badsey - Fullers London Pride (4.1%) seems to be the regular at the Wheatsheaf. December guests included Banks's Original (3.4%) and Sadlers Slap and Tipple (4.9%), while January saw Malvern Hills Moel Bryn (3.9%) and Greene King Abbot Ale (5.0%). (27 Jan 07)

Badsey - Highgate Davenports Original (4.0%) was the guest at the British Legion at the end of January. (27 Jan 07)

Evesham - the Strawberry Field, Four Pools has acquired Cask Marque accreditation. Greene King IPA (3.6%), Morland's Old Speckled Hen, and Wadworth 6X (4.3%) are the usual offerings. (21 Jan 07)

Sedgeberrow - the Queens Head has been acquired by the Hook Norton brewery. From late November it was run by a temporary manager, but Claire Checkley and Neil Warren took over on 15th January. Halford - Halford Bridge has now re-opened, and first reports state that the Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and the Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%) were in excellent condition. (05 Jan 07)

Barton - Liz and Dean are the new faces behind the bar at the Cottage of Content, having taken over on December 1st. For the time being the regular beers are still Theakston Best Bitter (3.6%) and Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%) but the Theakstons could well be replaced shortly by something more "interesting". (05 Jan 07)

Cleeve Prior - three real ales were available over Christmas at the Kings Arms. The regular Hobsons Best Bitter (3.8%) was joined by Hobsons Mild (3.2%) and Draught Bass (4.4%), with Brakspear Bitter (3.5%) appearing after the mild ran out. (03 Jan 07)

Alcester - the guest beer at the Turk's Head, High Street, after Christmas was the locally-brewed Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%). Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale (4.0%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) continue on tap as usual. (31 Dec 06)

Pathlow - a visit to the Dun Cow between Christmas and New Year revealed that it had been drunk dry of real ales: Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%), Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%) and Ruddles County (4.3%) had all been demolished, although keg beers were still available. (29 Dec 06)

Wellesbourne - a new beer has been brewed to celebrate the success of Chedham's Yard in the BBC's Restoration Village competition. Morgans Chedham's Ale (3.4%) is available only at the Stags Head, along with a dazzling array of up to six other real ales. (28 Dec 06)

Snitterfield - 17th December saw the dedication of a memorial bench at the Snitterfield Arms in memory of a regular, a soldier from Bearley who was killed in Afghanistan in September. Lance Corporal Paul Muirhead would have been 29 on 16th December. Standard bearers from the British Legion attended, as did a piper and a bugler. (28 Dec 06)

Broadway - the Crown & Trumpet, winter beer festival kicked off with four real ales: Stanway Lords-a-Leaping (4.5%), Beartown Santa's Claws (4.5%), Phoenix Xmas Kiss (4.5%), and RCH Steaming Santa (4.4%). With the festival lasting up to six weeks, later arrival was scheduled for Hambleton Sleigh Ride (4.5%), Hop Back Elf and 'Oppiness (3.9%), York Nippy Knight (4.5%?) and Houston Jack Frost (4.5%). Shipston-on Stour - the refurbished public bar has re-opened at the Black Horse, Station Road with a big fire and a big welcome. Lower Brailes - eight years of Monday night Blues music finally came to an end at the George Hotel, when Mike Sanchez played the final gig on 20th November. A limited number of gigs will start at the Cherington Arms, Cherington in January.(16 Dec 06)

Wootton Wawen - Adnams Broadside (4.7%) has been spotted as a guest beer at the Bulls Head, which is reported to be under new management. (14 Dec 06)

Pebworth - another pub to try closing weekday lunchtimes and opening earlier in the evenings is the Masons Arms. From Mondays to Fridays in winter it is opening at 5 pm; no food is available Sunday evening, Monday or Tuesday. Wadworth 6X (4.3%) and Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) were available in mid-December, but the range is constantly changing from week to week to include beers such as and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%). Sedgeberrow - the Queens Head has been acquired by the Hook Norton brewery. In late November it was being run by a temporary manager, and they hope to let the pub on a tenancy early next year, when it will offer "at least two cask beers, and possibly a third", according to the brewery. (27 Nov 06)

Long Marston - New landlords Andrew Szczepanski and Steve Patmore took over the Masons Arms on October 23rd. Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) is the regular real ale, plus a guest beer such as Fullers London Pride (4.1%), Marston's Pedigree (4.5%), or Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%). Their meat-eat-drink company also currently runs the Old Tramway and the Squirrel in Stratford. (29 Oct 06)

Alcester - in the run up to the Holly Bush, Henley Street, October Beer Festival interesting guests in the bar included Funfair Gallopers (3.8%) and Milestone Lion's Pride (3.8%), while during the festival there were Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%) and Sharp's Cornish Coaster (3.8%). Barton - landlord Scott Simpson-Vye is planning to retire from the Cottage of Content on December 1st and will be living in Clifford Chambers. Alcester - the guest beer at the Turk's Head, High Street, in mid-October was Archers Soft Lad (3.9). Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale (4.0%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) continue on tap as usual. (22 Oct 06)

Wixford - after reports of only two real ales in July the normal four real ales were back on at the Three Horseshoes in late October. Adnams Bitter (3.7%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) were joined by Marston's Pedigree (4.5%) and Wye Valley Butty Bach (4.5%). (21 Oct 06)

Alcester - the Lord Nelson, Birmingham Road is closed lunchtimes from Monday to Wednesday. The regular beers are Boddingtons Cask (4.1%) and Fullers London Pride (4.1%), plus Thatchers Cheddar Valley cider and a guest beer. One of North Cotswold's is expected soon. (18 Oct 06)

Moreton Morrell - Hook Norton Best Bitter (3.4%) is still the regular ale at the Black Horse together with a stronger guest beer. In mid September it was Fullers ESB (5.5%), while October saw Hook Norton Flagship (5.3%) available. (18 Oct 06)

Cleeve Prior - from 23rd October through to Easter the Kings Arms will not be opening on weekday lunchtimes. But they will open at 5pm Tuesday to Friday to offer an early evening Supper menu till 7pm as well as the normal evening menu. Hobsons Best Bitter (3.8%) is the regular beer there and still excellent value at £2.00 per pint. October guests were Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Flowers IPA (3.6%). (15 Oct 06)

Harvington - we now hear that the cellar problems at the Golden Cross has been sorted and soon they will have Wye Valley Butty Bach (4.5%) on handpump as the regular ale with a guest changing every other week. (13 Oct 06)

Evesham - PJ's Moon & Sixpence in the Market Place has been closed for over two years, but in late October Wychavon Council were due to hear an application by Modern English Inns of Birmingham to reopen it under the name of The Old Monk. If successful it would open from 8am to midnight every day with an extension to 1am on Thursday Friday and Saturday. (12 Oct 06)

Great Wolford - new faces since July at the Fox & Hounds are mother Gill, son Jamie and daughter in law Sioned. Their previous pub was the Teme Valley brewery tap the Talbot at Knightwick, Worcs, so it is not surprising that the guest beer is often from Teme Valley - This (3.7%) was on in September and Mathom Goldings (4.1%) in October. Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) are the regular ales. Before that Gill was for 27 years landlady of the Grapes at Maentwrog, North Wales, where she won Freehouse of the Year title in 1995 from "The Publican" newspaper. The pub is closed on Mondays. Little Compton - Ian and Jacqui Sergeant have been the new proprietors of Warwickshire's only Donnington Brewery tied house, the Red Lion, since January, but most of their changes so far have been subtle rather than drastic. BB (3.6%) and SBA (4.4%) continue as the regular beers and Westons Old Rosie cider is also available on draught. (05 Oct 06)

Whichford - the Norman Knight changed hands in the first week of October with David Garner handing over CAMRA's West Midlands Pub of the Year to Kitty Rae and Julian Taylor, who do not plan to change too much initially. They plan to open all day at weekends in summer, and to serve food each evening except Sunday and Monday. They plan to continue to stock three beers from Mike Garner's next door Wizard Brewery, but will probably introduce a guest beer as well. (05 Oct 06)

Kineton - the Carpenters Arms offered four real ales on a recent visit: Everards Tiger (4.2%), Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%), Highgate IPA (3.4%) and Adnams Bitter (3.7%). (04 Oct 06)

Binton - Sean Brew has sold the Blue Boar to The Rutland Pub Company, a small chain of quality free houses, for an amount reportedly in seven figures. New landlady Debbie held a beer festival on the weekend of 16th/17th September with 21 real ales plus draught ciders. She hopes to hold another one over Christmas followed by four festivals a year in future. Beers in the pub over the festival weekend were Highgate Davenport's Original Bitter (4.0%), Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%), Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%), and Theakston Best Bitter (3.6%) (14 Sep 06)

The two other guest beers were Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%) and Pure Ubu (4.5%), to be followed by Archers Tickle Your Fancy (X.X%), Archers Old Bill Bitter (X.X%), Hook Norton Haymaker (5.0%) and North Cotswold Plough Ale (X.X%), which is brewed specially for the pub. Apart from the mild, the other regular beer is Hook Norton Hooky Bitter. (11 Aug 06)

Shipston-on-Stour - darts players at the Black Horse, Station Road, raised over £3,500 for local charities in a 24-hour marathon on August 4th and 5th, when there was also a fête and pig-roast. More funds were raised at a charity auction of a carved wooden football signed by Pelé. (11 Aug 06)

Ettington - Kirk and Ali Waller of the White Horse. "adopted" a horse at the nearby Redwings Horse Sanctuary as the pub's mascot, and had a huge bottle on the bar to collect funds for the sanctuary's work. But in early August the bottle was stolen with an estimated £300 of donations. Both the Wallers and Redwings have appealed to the thief to return the money: in the meantime there is a new bottle on the bar, and collecting has started all over again (11 Aug 06)

Halford - sisters Su and Melissa Price will be looking after the Halford Bridge when it re-opens in the autumn. Su, who is new to the trade, will be manager while Melissa and her fiance, Mark Benton, will oversee the refurbishment as landlords and tenants. They already have three other pubs and restaurants in Warwick and Leamington. The intention is to retain the character of this 16th century coaching inn and make it once more a focal point for the local community (11 Aug 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - in response to claims that Stratford's hotels are not currently up to world class standards, the Falcon on Chapel Street is to undergo a £2 million refurbishment. As well as revamping the conference facilities and public areas, all 84 bedrooms will have high-speead internet access. The whole hotel will have free wi-fi connectivity, with the reception area coming live in mid-August. Draught Bass (4.4%) is available. (10 Aug 06)

Alcester - real draught cider is available at the Lord Nelson, Birmingham Road. Thatchers Cheddar Valley was put on as a special during the Alcester and Arden Folk Festival, and was so successful that it has been kept on permanently (11 Aug 06)

Alcester - not so long ago all twelve pubs in Alcester sold at least one real ale (although often of indifferent quality), but a recent survey has revealed that the number has halved to a mere six. The Bell, Evesham Street, closed in 2000 and since then the following five have apparently given up on real ale: the Bear, High Street; the Cross Keys, Stratford Road; the Royal Oak, High Street; the Swan Hotel, Swan Street; and the White Lion, Evesham Street. Edgehill - an excellent pint of Hooky Dark (3.2%) rather than one of Hook Norton's seasonal beers was the third ale at the Castle alongside the Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Old Hooky (4.6%) in early August. (06 Aug 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - the real ale at Cox's Yard seems to change every few months or so: first Greene King IPA (3.6%) was replaced by Theakston Best Bitter (3.6%), which has in turn been superseded by Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%). (06 Aug 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - beers from local micro-breweries are often to be found at the Golden Bee, Sheep Street. Beers from both Shakespeare's Brewery and Purity Brewing have been spotted there (06 Aug 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - only one real ale at the Squirrel on Drayton Avenue, but on our visit it was Robinson's Old Stockport (3.5%), at a mere £2.00 a pint. (06 Aug 06)

Shottery - Greene King IPA (3.6%) is reported to be the only real ale on sale at the Bell. (06 Aug 06)

Shipston-on Stour - following its acquistion by Sue Hawkins, the George Hotel will close for three months refurbishment at the end of August, re-opening in time for Christmas. Sue's previous ventures have included Bar Humbug, No. 6 And Embargo in Stratford, as well as winning Warwickshire Dining Pub of the Year in 2002 with the Fox & Goose, Armscote. All 16 bedrooms will boast I-pod docks and plasma TVs , and the food will be up to Sue's normal high standards. But the main bar will retain its traditional feel. (03 Aug 06)

Cherington - Cherington Arms, is doing its bit for local charities, with Fun Prize bingo on alternate Monday nights in aid of the County Air Ambulance, and a quiz night on the 3rd Monday of each month for village fundraising projects. Barbeques have been available (weather permitting) every Saturday lunchtime through the summer. (03 Aug 06)

Halford - apart from a brief spell last summer, the Halford Bridge has been closed since January 2005, but that should soon change. Punch Taverns are about to start a £500,000 refurbishment to restore the pub and its restaurant and letting rooms. A spokeperson said "The lengthy closure has been due to detailed planning because of the nature of the building, which is a Grade II listed 16th century coaching inn." (03 Aug 06)

Lower Brailes - after a few months under relief managers, a permanent new incumbent has now arrived at the George Hotel. Marilyn Hewitt and Tony Harris took over on August 1st. The kitchen is not yet in action, and there are some restrictions on the license due to local issues, but Marilyn hopes that the George will soon regain its former glory. (02 Aug 06)

Pebworth - Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) seem to be regular at the Masons Arms while guests have included Thwaites Lancaster Bomber (4.4%) and with Wadworth 6X (4.3%). For those with laptops, the pub is wi-fi enabled, so you can visit our website from there! (31 Jul 06)

Aston Cantlow - Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%) was on sale at the Kings Head as well as M&B Brew XI (3.8%) and Abbot Ale (5.0%) from Greene King. (30 Jul 06)

Pathlow - following Alan's retirement the Dun Cow has been taken over by Adrian Grubb, who previously ran a restaurant in Henley. It has been completely refurbished and the accent is now firmly on the food: the Lamb meatballs come highly recommended. In late July Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%) was available together with Fullers London Pride (4.1%) and Charles Wells Bombardier (4.3%). Adrian hopes to have other local beers available shortly. Badsey - recent guests at the Round of Gras have come from both near and far: the near represented by Banks's Bitter (3.8%) from Wolverhampton and Purity Pure Gold (3.8%) from just up the road and the far by Sharp's Doom Bar Bitter (4.0%) all the way from Wadebridge in Cornwall, Hop Back Summer Lightning (5.0%) from Wiltshire, Ringwood Best Bitter (3.8%) from Hampshire and Youngs Bitter (3.7%) from London. Welford - Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) are still the regular beers at the Shakespeare. (24 Jul 06)

Ilmington - three Hook Norton beers are available the Red Lion: Hooky Dark (3.2%), Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Old Hooky (4.6%). (23 Jul 06)

Ilmington - an unusual visitor to the Howard Arms, was St Peter's Organic Bitter (4.1%) from Suffolk, along with the more regular Everards Tiger (4.2%) and Hook Norton 303 AD (4.0%). (23 Jul 06)

Harvington - the Golden Cross has been completely refurbished both inside and out, with new signs, and the back garden has been opened up. Due to ongoing problems with the cellar, Badger Fursty Ferret (4.0%) was spotted being dispensed direct from a cask on the bar in late June, and a month later the "guest on the bar" was Mayfield's Excalibur (4.1%). Wixford - the normal four real ales at the Three Horseshoes appear to have been slimmed down to just two: Adnams Bitter (3.7%) and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) were the only offerings in late July. (21 Jul 06)

Wixford - the Fish Inn. boasted Adnams Bitter (3.7%), Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%), Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) and, rather more unusually, Jenning's Cumberland Ale (4.0%). (21 Jul 06)

Kings Coughton - three real ales were on sale at the Moat House in mid-July. This old house boasted Adnams Bitter (3.7%), Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) and Purity Pure Gold (3.8%). (14 Jul 06)

Newbold-on-Stour - Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) appears to have gone from the White Hart, replaced by an all-Adnams lineup with Bitter (3.7%) being joined by Broadside (4.7%). (13 Jul 06)

Broom - there was a definite Yorkshire flavour to the guest beers at Broom Tavern on World Cup Final night. Alongside the regular Greene King IPA (3.6%), were Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%) from Masham and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) from Keighley. (09 Jul 06)

Welford - in early July the beers at the Four Alls were Shepherd Neame Spitfire (4.5%) and Wadworth 6X (4.3%). The pub has a riverside terrace and eating area, as well as a large garden with play area to the rear. (06 Jul 06)

Clifford Chambers - Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Fullers London Pride (4.1%) were available at the New Inn. The pub also has 14 bedrooms and a non-smoking restaurant. (06 Jul 06)

Evesham - early July offerings at the Old Swanne Inne, High Street, included Mauldon's Black Adder (5.3%) from Suffolk, as well as the locally-brewed Shakespeare's Brewery Taming of the Brew (4.2%) and The Scottish Ale (4.6%). There were also a couple of guests with a World Cup theme, but sales of these seemed to stagnate after Gelsenkirchen. (06 Jul 06)

Shipston-on Stour - a welcome convert to real ales is the Old Mill, which had not served them since 1986/87. Recent refurbishment has provided a ground-floor cellar, from which Purity Brewing Pure Ubu (4.5%) will be the first to flow, with the promise of ale from Wizard Brewery due shortly. The pub also has 5 rooms for those seeking accommodation. (05 Jul 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - a little bird tells us that beers from Shakespeare's Brewery may be seen at the Old Thatch Tavern on Greenhill Street. (03 Jul 06)

Abbots Salford - Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) were the offerings at the Vineyard at the start of July. The pub has an extensive patio area with tables as well as a garden with children's play area. (02 Jul 06)

Shipston-on Stour - the George Hotel has taken over the regular music gigs prviously held at the George Hotel, Lower Brailes for the time being. Two real ales are usually available. (29 Jun 06)

Sedgeberrow - Wickwar BOB (4.0%) and Greene King IPA (3.6%) were the regulars at the Queens Head in June, with a guest beer from Humpty Dumpty Brewery of Reedham, Norfolk (27 Jun 06)

Offenham - Woods World Cup Fever made it through the group stages at the Bridge Inn together with Donnington BB (3.6%) and Caledonian Deuchar's IPA (3.8%). We hear that there may be a beer festival on about Aug 17th to 19th. (27 Jun 06)

Offenham - another place where the seemingly ubiquitous Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%) has been spotted is the Fish and Anchor. Adnams Broadside (4.7%) and a guest beer are also available. (25 Jun 06)

Alcester - guests at the Holly Bush, Henley Street, in early June included Goffs Tournament (4.0%), Loddon Flight of Fancy (4.2%) and Enville Ale (4.5%). The four regular beers are Purity Brewing Pure Gold (3.8%), Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%), Cannon Royall Fruiterer's Mild (3.7%) and Uley Uley Bitter (4.0%). There was a definite northern feel to the beer festival in mid-June, with a total of 29 beers and a dozen ciders and perries available. (16 Jun 06)

Childswickham - Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%) and Marston's Pedigree (4.5%) continue as the real ales available at the Childswickham Inn. (09 Jun 06)

Newbold-on-Stour - Annie Henderson and Mark Miles are the new tenants at the Bird in Hand; former tenant Andron Ingle has moved to the Star at Sulgrave, Northants. "The Bird in Hand is a family-friendly community pub, which welcomes people of all ages", said Annie Henderson. Three Hook Norton beers continue to be available on handpump: Best Bitter (3.4%) and Old Hooky (4.6%) and a seasonal beer, plus the occasional guest. (21 Jun 06)

Ardens Grafton - Pat and Steve Wainwright are the new faces at the Golden Cross. Refurbishment has included a new patio area with giant umbrellas and heaters. And the pub will host a mini-pop festival Graftonbury 2006 on Sunday May 28 in aid of local charities. Steve also has hopes to run a beer festival sometime in the next twelve months. (30 May 06)

Honeybourne - Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%) was the real ale available at the Gate Inn in late May. (25 May 06)

Evesham - mid-May offerings at the Old Swanne Inne, High Street, were Brakspear Bitter (3.4%), Sharp's Doom Bar (4.0%), Titanic Lifeboat (4.0%), Banks's Chocolate Mild (4.2%), Hydes Jekyll's Gold (4.3%), and Rocinsons Young Tom (4.0%) plus a couple of foreign visitors - the Czech Herold Granat (5.5%) and Anker Gouden Carolus Ambrio (8.0%) from Belgium. All these featured at the Wetherspoons May Beer & Cider Festival, but Shakespeare's Taming of the Brew (4.2%) was also available. ((21 May 06)

Iron Cross - out have gone the uninspiring Courage Best Bitter (4.0%) and M&B Brew XI (3.8%) at the Queens Head, to be replaced by the likes of Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.3%) and Hook Norton Hooky Bitter (3.6%). Steve and Deb are also offering live entertainment every Saturday evening (26 Apr 06)

Harvington - late April saw real ales from both ends of England at the Coach & Horses: Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%) from North Yorkshire and St Austell Dartmoor Best Bitter (3.9%) from Cornwall. (26 Apr 06)

Honeybourne - Jane and Dean are the new team at the Thatched Tavern, which now claims to be a "child and dog friendly" pub, boasting a children's play area with bouncy castle. (23 Apr 06)

Lower Brailes - Everards Tiger (4.2%) was a guest beer at the George Hotel on St. George's day, as well as Hooky Bitter (3.6%), Old Hooky (4.6%), and 303 AD (4.0%). But the efforts of no fewer than four sides of Morris men ensured that by the end of the evening all bar 303 AD had been drunk dry. (23 Apr 06)

Stratford-upon-Avon - Ruddles County (4.3%), Flowers Original (4.4%) and Greene King IPA (3.6%) were the offerings at the Windmill, Church Street during the Shakespeare's Birthday celebrations in April. (23 Apr 06)

Broadway - Ringwood 49-er (4.9%), was the pre-Easter guest beer at the Horse & Hound, while Greene King IPA (3.6%), Hook Norton Old Hooky (4.6%) and Morland's Old Speckled Hen (5.2%) are the the regular beers. (11 Apr 06)

Broadway - Greene King IPA (3.6%) and Wyre Piddle Piddle in the Hole (3.9%) were the offerings at the Broadway Hotel , in mid-April. (11 Apr 06)
