things you didn't know about the Welwyn Hatfield Netball League
(. . . well you probably do!)
The League was formed in 1952/3 and originally was made up of teams from
local companies.
The League was previously called the Mid Herts League.
King George V Playing Fields in Welwyn Garden City is the home of the League.
The League consists of 3 Divisions with a total of 30 teams in the 1999 /
2000 season.
The League is self funded, with the teams affiliated to the League being a
mixture of sponsored and self funded.
Currently over
300 ladies are affiliated and competing every week.
All players are affiliated to the All England Netball Association and the
Hertfordshire Netball Association.
The Winter Season runs from September to April, with games being played each
Saturday between 9.30 and 13.30.
The Summer Season runs from June to August, with games being played on Monday
between 18.30 and 21.00.
Tournaments are held at the beginning and end of the Winter Season.
A fund raising tournament is held annually to raise money for local
charities.
A full board of
volunteer committee members organise the league games,
tournaments and events.
A Presentation evening is held at the end of the Winter Season, with awards
given in each division to: Winners Runners Up Fair Play Best Attack Best
Defence Player of the Year
The League has a development Plan which was formulated in 1998. As part of
the development plan, a third division was created for the 1998 / 1999 Winter
Season.
