MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIERS

Dear Sirs,
I visited the Manchester Hifi Show on Saturday last and was totally amazed by the sound quality of the system featuring the JLH Mosfet Monoblocks.  We had been wandering around for about two hours and were very tired of hearing so many systems that were either built around the loudness=quality premise or were so detailed and analytical that we were physically tired from listening after about 5 minutes!  We arrived at your dem room at the end of the day with some trepidation after what had come before, but the experience was refreshing and reinforced my faith that some people really understand how to make good music come to life.  We sat and listened for about 30 minutes, after the previous demonstrations had struggled to retain our attention for 30 seconds!
We had already convinced ourselves that this was one of only three demonstrations that had really impressed all day.  It is worth pointing out that we came to this conclusion before we knew the prices of the kit.  There must be some mistake!  There seems to be so much space for the music to breathe and express itself, I cannot praise it highly enough.  I felt an almost instant ease and affinity to the system and it seemed to be effortlessly in tune with what is best about good music (not hifi!).

Recently, of necessity, I was forced to look to raise some money from sale of part of my Hi-Fi system.
My Hi-Fi comprised of a Townsend Rock Reference turntable,a Naim Pre Amp plus Linn Clout power amp and AE2 Loudspeakers. I decided to sell the Linn Amp and replace it with Williams Hart Mono Block power amps to raise my cash. I was expecting as a result of this forced sale to sacrifice some sound quality from my system. To my surprise and delight the Williams Hart Amps comfortably out performed my much more expensive amp. Without going into Hi Fi speak they have given me more music and less Hi-Fi type sound and to this day I am very pleased with them and no longer feel the need to spend large amounts of money on flavour of the month Hi-Fi amps. With my new found confidence in the Williams Hart power Amps I decided to try their Phono stage and Andante Power supply.I am pleased to say this Phono stage is every bit as good as their Power Amps and with a passive pre amp more than matches the performance of much more expensive equipment I have heard at Hi-Fi dealers and exhibitions.

I still use four of the monoblock amplifiers in my system, even though I have upgraded everything else since reviewing them in Hi Fi News.I realised that the pre-amp was holding the power amps back.

The Seraph Speakers

As of today I am absolutely delighted with the sound. To my ears they are totally involving and able to recreate all types of music effortlessly to the highest order. Some of my ‘live’ CD’s sound quite magical and I am amazed at the ease with which they reproduce the full range of sound at all volume levels particularly low levels. I cannot get over how such solid and extended bass does not prevent the highly articulate midband and treble although to described them this way is misleading as above all they are ‘seamless’. After extended periods of listening there is no fatigue as experienced with my ProAcs. With hindsight the ProAcs required high volume levels to get ‘involved’ and this coupled with the treble although initially impressive, became wearing.

Wow! I am speechless! For the last three years I have had hi-fi and speakers that I have been unhappy with. I've connected up the Seraph 1's and I no longer have a hi-fi...only a room filled with the most exciting, natural, dynamic music I have ever heard............I am proud to be amongst those who "...usually buy the Seraph or an adaptation of it", it's great in Nirvana!

Good to meet you at the show at the weekend, and I still cant get over how impressed I was with your speakers.

Very natural and realistic.

Now that I have heard the Seraph, I can hear that it is better than my Prestige in that the bass is fasterand more extended, the midrange has more detail (yet this is achieved in a subtle fashion), and the top end is more realistic. Imaging and sound stage is excellent, definately a layer above my own speakers which were one of the best I had heard until now. Now that I have installed your WH2000 interconnects, I can see what you mean by an extra level. They are quite simply the best cables I have heard.

I own a pair of Kef 105/3 and I have never heard this recording sound as good as this, it sounds so realistic and lifelike.

I see what you mean about the separation, you can quite clearly hear what everyone is supposed to be doing and it's not achieved by being aggressive or forward.

You've done a remarkable job with these speakers and it was useful to compare them side by side with your pair of Prestige. The Seraph do sound better. I could listen all day re-discovering my album collection.

The speakers you designed for me before xmas still sound excellent. I have heard nothing else that comes close. Now that they are run in they sound very neutral with the speakers becoming very transparent to the music. Even when being driven to fairly high levels they simply seem to get better!

Dear Shaun,
The phono stages have now run in and they sound absolutely amazing......................I bought some of those D connector leads and used the power supplies to power my active crossovers.  The improvement over the lead acid battery or dry cell power source has been simply breathtaking.  I have a Sony SACD777ES which has identical inards to the SCD1 except for the transformers and absence of a balanced output.  Even some CDs (albeit not many) now sound very good and SACDs sound brilliant.  My system was sounding lumpy in the bass before and had no treble transparency by comparison to how it sounds now.  These power supplies are fantastic.  I don't even have any special mains conditioning gear or leads.

I own a Linn LP12 with Ekos arm and Dynavector 17D cartridge. I was amazed by the sheer ability of the 1450 phono stage. The bass and detail is quite superb, and when ever I decide to play my music by record, I know the sound be as involving as any format that,s around today.
A remarkable product, well done Williams Hart Electronics.

I have a pair of £125.00 interconnects which I bought from an advert ia a hi-fi mag. Having now built some interconnect from your signal cable and plugs (equivelant price £15.98), I think it's a give away as it has better bass and is as good as the other cable in all other respects except perhaps a slightly wider soundstage on the £125.00 cable.

I had never done anything like this before and found it easier than expected. I was going to put the phono stage in my second system until I listened to it and realised it was much better than the one I was using. It now has pride of place in my main system.

Thankyou for the opportunity to hear the Linsley Hood amplifiers. I have now decided to place the order for a pair of monoblocks and a pre-amp with phono stage built in. These are to drive my Quad electrostatics.

Performance very good. Overload capability v.good, distortion below the noise floor until 30dB above "normal" operating input.......are just some of the comments on the phono stage whilst being assembled, from someone who has already built a stereo JLH amp.

It's so nice to deal with someone that really does know what they are talking about and not just living on the back of someone else's reputation churning out computerised designs. I am constantly surprised at how good my system sounds every time I sit and listen.

I purchased and constructed the renowned JLH 80 Watt Mosfet Amplifier at the age of 17! My father (an electronics engineer) and myself were absolutely astounded at how easy the kit was to construct, the quality of the design and the unbelievable  sound. This lead me to construct the JLH preamplifier, the tuner and my own speakers! Since then I have moved to the USA and have decided to reinvigorate my passion for serious Hi-Fi. So, it should come as no surprise that I wish to assemble two JLH monoblock amplifiers in the near future!
